Self-talk + the reset you need [3-day challenge]

The voice that will always be with you 24/7 is your own.

Whose voice is the most important in your training? Your own! How do you talk to yourself?

Something I love about weightlifting is that it’s so pure: it’s not about competing against others, it’s not about fighting and beating the weight on the bar, it’s about constantly challenging yourself to be better.

As I watched the Olympics this summer, I paid extra attention to athletes’ pre-event preparation and imagined the conversations they must be having with themselves. Just as they’ve spent countless hours physically preparing their bodies for the biggest athletic stage, they have devoted time and attention to honing their self-talk.

The power of self-talk is now widely acknowledged. How you talk to yourself impacts your feelings, actions, and results. Regardless of whether or not you have a coach, self-talk is vital. After you share your goals of how high you want to climb and how far you want to go, a coach can certainly guide you and help you see and address themes in your self-talk. Most of my 1:1 coaching time is spent talking an athlete through how they’re feeling and pushing past self-doubt. But coach or no coach, the voice that will always be with you 24/7 is your own. I strive to help my athletes achieve fluency in self-talk that comes from love and compassion.

Physical activity can help transform your mental activity; and your mental activity can also reinforce your physical activity. They go hand in hand. The pandemic created a proliferation of fitness and workout content. But most of these ignore what prevents most athletes from achieving the results they want to see: the mental aspect.

So I was inspired to create this free resource of a 3-day workout challenge to reset your body and mind that incorporates mindset and routine guidance. Whether you’re in a rut, finding it hard to get to the gym, or otherwise just need something new and different for a reset--this resource is for you!

Check it out and I’d love to know what you think!

See you out there,

Andrew
